In Need of an Update

You would think that with an entire Summer I would've at least posted once. Nope.
Summer is almost gone and I guess I have been busy!

Sweetmint Movie Update:
We are anxiously awaiting the news whether or not Sweetmint has been accepted into the 2010 Milwaukee Film Festival. The movie is just about complete, although I have heard that Christian has been editing the sound some more. Here is the link to the new website: Sweetmint. It features the trailer, the blog, and has a complete cast list. How exciting!

Job Update:
I have been working at Office Max lately(since June) and it is working out pretty well. I can't say it's my dream job, but it isn't so bad as retail jobs go. I will be trained in the Impress(graphic design/printing) department hopefully next week. *crosses fingers*

Obsessions Update:
Another trend I have found myself being sucked into lately is Steampunk. If you are unfamiliar with Steampunk it is a fashion trend that includes a mostly Victorian style of dress with added futuristic gadgets, gizmos, and goggles! Basicially as they eloquently say on Threadbanger.com "It is as if the future had existed in the past". It is a lot of fun! I have already ordered some brass buttons, and clock parts, and chains to begin making jewelry. If you go to Etsy.com and search 'steampunk' there are tons of pages filled with people selling jewlery, clothing, and accessories devoted to Steampunk. There is a Steampunk ball August 26th downtown Milwaukee that (I hope I asked off of work in time for) I am getting ready to attend. It should be awesome! I found a dress at Goodwill that should work and also am starting to design some jewlery and goggles. Threadbanger.com really helped with diy tutorials and videos.

I will post pictures of the results later! For now enjoy the videos and check out the Steampunk Ball event on facebook!

Posting ladeda

Hey all! The end of the semester is getting crazy...

My last Choir Concert at WLC is tonight at 8pm. It will be amazing. We are singing most of the selections from Carmina Burana. If you think you haven't heard of it, you have. Look up "Oh Fortuna" on Youtube. You will go: "oh yea!"

Woo.

More updates later.

Homework.

Yuck.

Hair Cut

Hey all, I got a haircut. It was just time. I had been growing it out for awhile, trying to see if long hair was "me". I can see now that I am meant to have short, cute, and awesome hair. Not to mention the place where I got me haircut.

Mirror Mirror Hair Salon in St.Francis, WI is a great place to get a haircut. The owner, Deano, has studied in Europe and China to learn every type of hair. He has been cutting hair for 15 years and does an amazing job. He told me tips and facts about my type of hair that I had not heard before. I had been damaging my hair for years without even knowing it!

The atmosphere at Mirror Mirror is unlike any hair salon I have been to. The overall effect is Gothic, but not in a creepy way. More like the class and darkness of Edgar Allan Poe that is still accessible to people from everywhere. Tall, dark framed mirrors draped with red cloth and chandeliers decorate the entire space. If you are waiting, the literature decorating the coffee table included anything from fashion magazines to Haunted Places in Wisconsin books.

A truly unique and amazing experience all around. I will going here from now on!

Almost another break

I have been pretty lax at updating this thing, but it has been pretty busy around the Walker household. We are in the process of moving the entire contents of our apartment into our new "apartment" at Mom and Dad's house. Uncle Lee helped us move furniture, boxes, and other large items last weekend. Now we just have a few more big items, boxes, clothes, and lots and lots of cleaning to do.

Our new rooms are pretty awesome. Dad was nice enough to combine the two rooms with a pocket door in the middle.

Today is the last day of school until next Wednesday. I am so happy! I love that I am privileged enough to go to school and earn my degree, but I have been having trouble finding the motivation for anything lately. Talking to others on campus, I am not alone!

Hmm...what a boring post.

I will talk about Grandpa. He is doing a bit better. He is going to be in a nursing home(hopefully by Friday) because the recent home he is in will not be covered by their insurance. Pray for him, ok? He is still a bit confused and needs all the prayers and love we can give him.

Home Again

Happy St.Patty's Day!

I got back from choir tour on Sunday around 6:30PM. It was a long almost 10 hour bus ride from Virginia.

Tour was great! I have never been that far East before and it was amazing to see our American history in person. I will have up pictures later this week/weekend depending on time!

It is great to be back. Except for the homework....

Choir Tour 2010 Day One

It was a long trip, but we are finally here in Findlay, Ohio. The concert went extremely well, but we are so tired! I couldn't sleep very good the night before because I was having nightmares. Luke and I stayed up until 1:30ish watching Robot Chicken Star Wars. It helped scare the bad things away!

Tomorrow we are driving about 3ish hours to Cincinnati and then around a 7 hour trip to Knoxville, Tennessee.

It is going to be a long one, but it has been fun so far.

I miss Luke, but I think he can survive without me for 10 days, right? We shall see!

Have a good night!

I Just Noticed the Change

Wow. It's March? REALLY? That is amazing. This year is already flying by so fast. I cannot wait until school is over for the year. I love the feeling of passing all of my classes and being one step closer to graduation. It kinda stinks because if I wouldn't have taken a year (or so) off then I would be all done with school this Spring...oh well. Too late now!

Everyone have an awesome Spring!

Tour Info, G Update, and a Poem

Tomorrow I leave with the WLC choir to go on our annual choir tour. I am so excited! Not excited about leaving a 7:30am but it definitely could be worse.

Grandpa is doing pretty good I hear. He is being moved to New Berlin to rehabilitate and then they will do surgery after he is more stable. Prayers please!

I wrote two poems a little while ago. Kinda...sad...poems, but hey I was in a sad mood. You can read it if you want or just skip over. I kinda like them, but they are not my best.

The Runaway
By: Katy Walker

I stumble through briars and thorns
I cannot see clear anymore
Although I hear whispers, which might be your call
I cannot believe you would want me at all

My footsteps lessen and halt
My head does not know where to go
Although I hear sirens, which could be for me
Their search is unfruitful as it ever could be

I fall in a small trench and cave
I think I have broken my leg
Although I hear songbirds, which could mean daylight
I have no new hope as I once thought that I might

I have been having a better time since I wrote this poem. It helps me vent when I write poetry, which is probably a good reason why many of my poems are sad.

One More Week To Go

One more week and then it is Spring Break. I can't wait! I am going on tour with my College choir to Ohio, Tennessee, Georgia, S.Carolina, N.Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia(not the exact order I don't think).
It will be a LOT of driving on a bus, but I am so excited!
Our free day is in Virginia where we could either go to Virginia Beach or Historic Williamsburg. I am going to the second one. It will be too cold to swim anyhow.

I am going to miss Luke, but I am sure he will be fine without me. I just feel bad because we have a lot of packing to do and he will spend a lot of his spring break doing that by himself.

Luke's band concert is today. The theme is Music and art. They are going to have a projector with art pieces down while the band is playing. I think it will be great.

If you all would pray for my grandpa Steuer, I would appreciate it. He is having heart trouble and his main valve(aortic valve) is very stuff, making his heart work too hard. I hope the liquid gets out of his lungs soon so they can operate and make him better. He is also very confused(I think I would be too). I got to visit him on Friday and he thought I was my aunt at first. Pray for Grandma Steuer as well please, she is very worried and if you know her then you know she doesn't get worried very often.

Thank you and have a great day! Off to hear some lovely music!

Another Weird Dream. It felt like Friday 2 days ago...

I had another weird dream. My friend Steph and her husband were in it along with Luke and our friend Zach. Steph and Zeke were staying over at our "house" and they were almost late for work in the morning. And somehow we ended up at a weird summer camp program in a gym that didn't have a roof. Zach was wandering around with balloons and placing them nicely onto the bleachers for the kids when they came back from the last activity. Some balloons were normal, with just air in them and some were filled with water, but still had a string on the end. Some guy was on the bleachers kept telling him that holding balloons wasn't a real job and that he should consider getting a real job. I must have been sitting on the bleachers behind them because I watched the whole thing. Then I shifted my attention to the gym floor to the left of the bleachers. The counselors and kids were performing or practicing some weird routine. It looked like a strange mix of cheerleading and show choir. Steph, Zeke, Luke, and I were all out of work so maybe that is why we were at the camp (who knows). Zeke jumped up on the bleachers, stretched out his arms, and started to act out his resume'. "I am organized, great with kids, and I see you don't have a clown at this fair...I can change that!" The people around started muttering agreeably. He would be an amazing clown!
After his performance, we were suddenly back at Luke's and my house. We were all rushing around because we had woken up late. I think a stopped watch was involved.

And that is my dream! It was weird and I may have left out a few details, but it is mostly complete I think.

Wow...I am bad at this.

This always happens. I start a blog or diary or journal, etc... and at first I am writing in it everyday with updates and stories. And then it dies! Well, not this time. I am going to update this everyday...that I remember.

Not too much has happened lately to write about. Luke and I have been pretty busy with school. Luke had to make a tower out paper and glue and be able to stack 8 books on top of it. It held 6-7 I think, so he passed! It looked really hard to do. The glue would not stick! But eventually he got out the hot glue gun and went to town trying to hold that thing together.

I have been working on Dreamweaver for one computer class and Illustrator for another one. I have to continue to make an awesome website for the 1st class and I am making a vector image of Link from the Legend of Zelda for the 2nd. Phew...it is a lot of work.

My choir tour for WLC college choir is coming up. We leave March 5th and don't come back until spring break is over. We are going to(not in this order) Ohio,Tennesee,Georgia,South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania. I think that is right. I cannot wait!

Luke is going on Man Weekend this weekend with some guy friends of his. They go up to a cabin and do manly things I guess.

Well, I need to study for my Principles of Marketing class. Have a great day everyone and I will try to post as often as I can!

Zombie Dream

I had a weird dream about Zombies last night. It was not really that scary. Pretty much it was at Mom and Dad's house, but the Zombies weren't after me really. I was watching what was going on with a bored expression, like this was a bad and not scary movie that I was watching for the 100th time. The creatures munched on friends and family or chased them through shopping malls and appeared on airplanes instead of flight attendants, but I remained calm and bored throughout the whole dream.

Line Dancing

Last night was pretty fun! Kevin and Leah invited us to go to their bar where they teach couples line dancing. This place is just over the Wisconsin-Illinois border in a town called Waukegan. The bar is called Sundance Saloon and we had a good time! It was not line dancing like we thought it was going to be, but it was still fun. Instead, they were teaching couples how to do Westcoast Swing, Cha Cha, Waltz, and other dances. The teacher was very particular on how you danced, which helped us learn fast. He said I was a quick study, which made me feel like that one year of couples dance class with Stephanie a few years ago has paid off. If anyone would like to try, we are going line dancing on Wednesday night sometime.

Blog Name Change

We decided to change the name of our blog. The previous name felt really cheesy, so we went with the living dead thing. Woo!

Poetry

I decided to put some poetry on this blog. I love writing and have been interested in writing since I learned how. When I was in first grade I decided I wanted to be a writer. I wrote a book about a Zoo. The zookeeper messed up and gave the tigers fish and the seals steak and the giraffes seeds or something. I still have it somewhere and it is fun to look at something I put so much heart into when I was younger. I just found a nice poetry website where you can submit your own poetry for others to read and also look at famous poets' great masterpieces.
It is called http://hellopoetry.com/ and if you love poetry and writing it, you should check it out. Here is a poem that I wrote last year I believe. Enjoy!

I Lay Down In The Grass
By: Katy Walker

I lay down in the grass
And gazed upon the weeds
I wish I could just float away
Like dandelion seeds
They start life bright and yellow
But when they want to go
They dance and spin and steal the breeze
Upon it they do flow
It’s so unfair
I did declare
Before plucking one said stem
Dandelions have all the fun
And in anger I did stare
I watched the white and puffy weed
With malice undefined
Why can’t I be a dandelion?
Life’s unfair I cried
I took a giant breath
And blew against the weed
It held for but a moment
Before escaping in the breeze
I watched the dancing seeds
And as they floated by
I snatched one quickly by the skirt
And whispered one small cry
Oh little seed please take my wish
And help it to come true
Take to the air
And do take care
Let me someday leave too

More Glee For Me

I used to never watch TV. There never was anything good on and didn't really have any time. Recently though I have gotten into TV. There are several shows that have great writing, cinematography, and acting. One of these shows add a musical element which means it is the best thing ever for me. That show is Glee and I am addicted. I am, in fact, a Gleek. You can check it out at http://www.fox.com/glee/ . They have videos, pictures, and full episodes on here are also www.hulu.com.

They are going to have auditions for some new characters coming into the show. I am going to audition (online video) and hopefully make it! : )

The Lovely Bones

I really want to see 'The Lovely Bones' directed by Peter Jackson. I read the book awhile ago and loved it. I am glad they are making it into a movie. I just need to read the book again before I see the movie. The preview captures it pretty well so far.

Tell me what you think and read the book. (By Alice Sebold)

: )

School Starts Soon

This has been a long wonderful break. We are kind of looking forward to going back to school...but also not of course. I have 19 credits and Luke has 18.5. Not fun! I look forward to learning new stuff, but I really just want to graduate! : )

Juice is in heat for the first time, which means we really need to watch her and make sure she is not alone outside(in case some un-fixed male dog shows up).

Luke and I both have been on a writing kick lately. We both are writing books! We are not very far yet, but it sounds good to us so far!

We are trying to think of what to do for our 3 year dating anniversary on February 14th.

Wow this post is not too exciting. We really didn't do much today. At all. We pretty much sat around and did nothing. Luke called Direct TV to complain why we got a notice in the mail for collection. Seriously this ordeal has been going on for at least a year now. It's getting old! They are terrible! But other then that, we sat around, watched a movie, and cleaned a little bit. The movie was the Sixth Sense. It was really good! Great acting, great cinematography, and compelling storyline. I loved it! Luke got it for me for Christmas and I am only sorry we didn't watch it sooner.

Hopefully my next post will be more exciting! ;)

Saturday!

We had Worship Band practice today for the Victory of the Lamb Church. It was pretty fun today! Sometimes it is a little stressful because one of the best guitarists in all of India now goes to our church. He is very forceful with what he thinks sounds good, but it is good to take a deep breath and think about who we are praising. : )

Cold today! Not too bad though. I would rather drive around in a bright and sunny, but cold day instead of a blustery and dark snow day.

We helped Mom and Dad clean part of their house today. Luke and Dad painted the ceiling of Doug's new room downstairs and also the walls. The color is beautiful! A brighter dark blue. Very nice! I can't wait until we get to pick out the colors for our rooms.

No jobs yet, but we will keep looking. My Mom gave me the number of a guy that works in Mentoring graphic design students so I am going to contact him to see if he has any tips.

It has been pretty stressful, but hopefully things will be looking up soon. I just need to keep positive...

Let's Start The Year

Not a lot going on since school has not started yet. We hope this blog will help us stay better connected with family!

Luke and I are bored, tell you the truth. Both of us are looking for work, preferable something we are interested it...but anything for money right now!

We just watched the entire 1st season of Glee. It makes me so happy inside! It also makes me want to jump on a plane to New York and try out for Broadway musicals. Sigh...but I guess watching this show will have to do for now.

I am also trying to try more recipes. Sad to say, most of these are sugary baked goods, which is not good for our New Years Resolution to eat better. I made Creme Brulee, which turned out pretty good. The custard was perfect, I just need to make the sugar on top a different consistency. It was too chunky...
I also made my trademark giant chocolate chip cookies. They are huge and delicious...but they use 3 sticks of melted butter....drool.

Luke and I have also been playing a lot of Rockband 2 this break! We have a nice little videogame band going on!

Well, on to the next project. We are cleaning out the computer room at Mom and Dad's so that we can paint it. This room is going to be Doug's new room when we move back in. I wish we didn't have to, but you gotta do what you gotta do. And it will be nice to be able to actually save some money!

Pray for us! Muah!
